Line-up & History: Formed in Auckland during the mid-1970s counter-culture movement, Horizon was a unique fixture on the North Island touring circuit. Comprising musicians who were members of the Baha'i Faith, the group operated as a highly active "proclamation" band. - Rather than sticking strictly to the standard, aggressive secular pub rock venues of the era, Horizon forged an independent touring network. They travelled the North Island by van to perform in community centres, university campuses, local theatres, and municipal halls.
The Music: Their live repertoire blended incredibly tight, multi-part vocal harmonies with uplifting, socially and spiritually conscious songwriting. Horizon mixed original acoustic-driven soft rock with popular contemporary folk and soul covers, deliberately catering to the 1970s youth movement.
Because they operated primarily within this faith-based independent touring network rather than releasing commercial studio LPs on major labels, no official vinyl releases or promotional studio photos are currently archived. They remain a fondly remembered "road warrior" group of the mid-70s North Island circuit.
